My first year at university in a pandemic

So, I’ve not had your regular first year at university. (Understatement of the year). But despite being at home for the majority of it, it’s definitely been an experience.
Let’s rewind to September and the first few weeks of uni. As I have mentioned in a previous post, I hated it. Moving into halls in the middle of a pandemic was the strangest experience. And then there was the fact that I felt totally out of place and managed to stay one night before coming home. Oops. But, as I come to the end of my first year, I can in fact tell you it got better. Luckily, I somehow still managed to make some lovely friends within the first month or so before we had to revert to all online learning and that made life a whole lot easier. But you’re probably thinking what about the accommodation you paid for. Well, I think I can count on one hand how many nights I’ve actually stayed there with all of the lockdowns and not having to go into uni but hey ho.
On a brighter note, I have now got a flat with my friends which we are moving into in July, and I can’t wait. Not just because I will actually (hopefully) get “the university experience” but also because I have somehow met a group of friends that are exactly like me and I am so excited to live with them. So, that’s one good thing I’ve got out of first year.
But really, it’s not been that bad. Yes, I have done both of my projects from home and yes it would’ve been a lot more fun if we were actually in university, but it’s still been an experience and I have still produced work I am super proud of. And I guess it’s something I will never forget. I think one thing I have learnt from this year is to make the most out of what you’ve got. Which in my case is 2 brothers who are great at photography so, shoutout to them.
Okay, that’s my little roundup of first year. I hope you’ve enjoyed that insight into being at university in a pandemic and I hope I haven’t put anyone off because honestly, it’s not all bad. Thanks for reading!
