What I eat as a vegetarian

One thing I fully committed to in lockdown was to stop eating meat. As a family we have never eaten much meat anyway, so it wasn’t a difficult transition. This post, I guess, is to show you just how easy it is to swap to a healthier and more planet conscious diet.
Now, I can’t complete this blog post without mentioning the brilliant Linda McCartney. It was in 1991 when Linda launched her meat free brand, and it has been constantly developed ever since. My absolute favourite product has got to be her vegetarian mozzarella ¼ lb burgers. Trust me, you can’t tell the difference between these and beef. In fact, they are so much more tasty. Why would you want to eat beef, or a cow in my eyes, when you can have one of these and feel guilt free. It’s a no brainer for me. Pair it with some fresh salad and you have the perfect burger. Another product I have been loving recently is the Linda McCartney meatballs. These are amazing. I probably sound like I’m repeating myself but, again, you can’t tell the difference between these and actual meatballs.
Something I have more recently tried is the THIS.co ‘this isn’t bacon’ plant-based rashers. Even when I wasn’t a vegetarian, I never really ate bacon, it just never appealed to me, but this is so good. In my opinion this is so much better than normal bacon. One thing I loved when I ate meat was McDonald’s chicken nuggets and their sweet chilli chicken wraps. But when lockdown happened and I started to miss these things I tried the Quorn nuggets and their southern fried bites and, again, it is just like normal chicken. My favourite lunch is a couple of Quorn nuggets on a salad wrap with sweet chilli sauce and if I say so myself it is just the same as the McDonald’s one.
The products I have mentioned are just a few of many that I have tried and love, and I hope this post proves how easy it is to go veggie. I think a lot of people are intimidated by the prospect and often don’t want to try something new but for me, I just think of the good I am doing. As an animal lover I can’t imagine ever going back to eating meat. And not just the fact that you aren’t eating animals but going vegetarian is so much better for your health. It is good for heart health, lowers the risk of cancer and so much more. And if that isn’t enough reasons for you there is also the important fact that going meat-free is helping to save the planet. Study’s show that meat-eaters are responsible for almost twice as many dietary greenhouse-gas emissions per day as vegetarians. And in today’s society there is no excuse for still eating meat.
